We believe that each child and his/her family are valuable contributors to the school community. By providing a safe nurturing environment, students will flourish. Newcomer students who do not speak English will work with our English-speaking students to adjust to the new environment, learn academic content and master English. This was evident when the P.S. 91 family embraced newcomers from Haiti, who migrated as a result of the recent earthquake. Arriving with limited knowledge of English, these newcomers are now fluent in the language.
Research indicates that parental involvement is critical to a child’s success in school. Our parent coordinator and Parent Teachers Association will help us to identify and address your specific needs and concerns. We are expanding the number of workshops, trips, guest speakers, family nights and other activities to support your child and your family.
I would like to encourage you to get involved with our PTA and to attend monthly meetings. In addition to those meeting, I hold monthly “Coffee with the Principal” sessions. I welcome your participation and input as we discuss goals for the academic year and respond to your questions.
The PS 91 Website offers current and valuable school and community information. Please use this tool to communicate with us. Through a shared channel of communication we can further encourage and support your child’s academic success preparing them to meet the challenges of an integrated global society.
Thank you,
Tessa Alleyne, Principal
